Of Wolves and Snow Leopards

One of the goals of Canidae is to support endangered species by raising awareness, not just wolves. Today we found a website that supports snow leopards, so we encourage people to join their mailing list to help this crucially endangered species. Like wolves, snow leopards avoid human kind and do not attack our species. (That's not to say that we don't support species like tigers as well.) Check out the website and learn more about this beautiful species of big cat.

Also, we support Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre. Check it out!

Hike - Promotional Image

Finally, we have a new promotional finished work, which was created using a new quicker inking process that we discovered. Looks a bit like xerox.

Enjoy!

New Rough Layout

This is one of the layouts which will appear in the graphic novel and features on of the wolf pack's den sites, which is in a protected spot by a lake. It's bear proof and defended not only by rocks and tree roots so a bear can't dig it up, but also by one very nasty tempered nanny wolf - Weaselfur!

Stop the Alaska Wolf Massacre

Quote Yuumei:

"Denning, the act of “grabbing (14) frightened young pups and one-by-one blowing their brains out with a pistol,” was outlawed decades ago, but the Alaskan Fish and Game department tried to hide that after committing the crime. . ~ quote by Alaska wolf biologist Gordon Haber who opposes denning and publicized the crime that the killers tried to hide.

However, Sarah Palin’s department of Fish and Game, believe that the low caribou and moose population was cause by wolf predation. Their solution? Kill the wolves! And thus 800 wolves have been shot, usually from a helicopter aerial wolf murder on video called aerial hunting, in the past four years. Even though Alaskans have voted down aerial hunting TWO TIMES, Plain’s department continued their slaughter regardless of the Alaskan’s wishes. They call it population control which is BS.

As an Environmental Science major student of University of California Berkeley, I find wolf population control, aerial hunting, and denning to be extremely STUPID (not to mention cruel. How would you like to be shot from a helicopter and your entire family slaughtered?)

Ever heard of the predator-prey cycle? Read about it here. Basically, increasing predator population (wolves) cause decrease in prey population (caribou). With less food to eat, the predator population would naturally decline. Thus with less predator, the prey population would naturally increase once more which cause an increase predator. This is the natural cycle that drives evolution. Each time when there are too many predators, the preys are put under greater natural selection; only the fittest escape predation. Each time when there are not enough preys, the predators are put under greater natural selection; only the fittest can find enough food. This is a NATURAL CYCLE, so why are humans disrupting evolution by randomly slaughtering entire packs of wolves regardless of their fitness? If any species of animals need population control, it’s the human population. Graph of human population.

Again, if you oppose this barbaric slaughter of innocent pups and other wildlife, spread the word, sign a petition, or donate Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund"

Welcome!

Welcome to Canidae's blog, which will serve as its website until we have a real one up.

Now, first of all, you're probably wondering: what is this? Answer: Canidae is a graphic novel being created by Canadian writers & artists Rosanna P. Brost & Aleria Carventus. Right now, we're still in the pre-production & planning stage; that is, writing the script, creating & making concept art of the characters and various elements of the story, then making character or model sheets. We hope to begin production in two years.

But what is it about?

Canidae
is the story of a young wolf named Tailchaser, who grows up as an underdog in her northern pack. When she's cast out of her pack, she wanders south, befriending the fox Red before being captured by humans and made to work as a sled dog - slavery for one who was once free to run and hunt for herself. Meanwhile, a relic holy to the people of Spiriki has been cruelly stolen by an unknown stranger and in a desperate attempt to get it back, Spiriki's Princess Sierra is risking everything. But more than just the stone is at stake, because her brother Crown Prince Jarosh has vanished, along with it. At the same time, the illustrious Lady Kylarra and her ragtag fiance Lord Kai are on the hunt for both prince and princess. Paralelling all this, is the force that is the strange Lord Tayne Lyarven, who seems to work for the King of Florne. Back in the north of Florne, Tailchaser's valient sister Stardash is trying to find her, despite pack politics and is about to embark on a journey that will change her life and that of her pack forevermore...

Coming soon, you'll see all sorts of concept art and production art. Keep in tune!
